Carceral Studies Consortium Graduate Fellowship

The Carceral Studies Consortium offers an outstanding graduate student with interest in advancing Carceral Studies a 12-month, .20 FTE position (8 hours per week). This CSC Graduate Student Fellow serves as the student representative on the Carceral Studies Board of Directors, as well as provides critical support for CSC initiatives throughout each academic year (July 1 to June 30).

During the Carceral Studies Consortium Fellowship year, the key duties include: 

• Communication: CSC newsletter with announcements and summaries of latest news (biweekly); Carceral Studies Conversations Podcast Series (four episodes per semester); manage the Twitter account; update website and blog (Fellow will be trained on how to use WordPress). 
• Meetings and Event Attendance: Fellow is expected to attend all CSC Board meetings (one hour monthly), a check-in with the CSC Director (thirty minutes weekly), and as many events as possible (at least once a month); Fellow will take minutes during board meetings and distribute. 
• Event Planning and Leadership: Fellow is expected to support event leaders in their planning and publicity as required; Fellow has the opportunity to plan and lead events and initiatives such as reading groups. 

• Funding: Research of funding opportunities applicable to Consortium members, to be posted on the CSC website and newsletter; Support CSC grant writing efforts.  
• Coordinate with Core Affiliate and Affiliate Board members to ensure they are meeting their position’s requirements; Assist with event planning and publicity. 
• Initiatives: Continue work on medium- and long-term initiatives, such as designing a course in Carceral Studies, curating resource list, community partnerships/researchers, etc.; the nature of the initiative and project you undertake is up to you (in consultation with CSC Director)

The Carceral Studies Consortium offers this 12-month, .20 FTE fellowship from July 1 through June 30, 2022, with a stipend of $7,500 per year, paid monthly. The fellowship is intended to complement another graduate assistantship. As such, you will need approval for an appointment over .50 FTE from your advisor and graduate liaison or chair. Graduate students from any discipline or field at OU are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to Ph.D. Candidates who have completed their coursework.
