This fall, we are pleased to share highlights of our award-winning Haskell & Irene Lemon Division of Construction Science (CNS) at Gibbs College. You can look forward to learning about events and opportunities, student and alumni highlights, research initiatives, and more.
There are many ways in which a degree in Construction Science from Gibbs College is an incredible value. Here are just a few highlights:
In the past nine years, CNS students have taken home more than 30 competition trophies, including 14 first-place finishes, seven second-place finishes, and 11 third-place finishes in TEXO and Design-Build Institute of American competitions.
Students in Construction Science have many opportunities to develop their professional skill sets and become successful alumni. Over the summer, many CNS students hold internships around the country. Recently, Leslie Avila interned with The Beck Group in Dallas.
One recent CNS alumnus, Lynnsee Boyse, is now a Project Manager at JE Dunn in Oklahoma City. Notably, she has worked on a design-build for the Oklahoma State Capitol Restoration project. Boyse has become a significant figure in the community and continues to develop as a leader in the field.
The faculty at Gibbs College of Architecture develop research and new knowledge at the leading edge of Construction Science in the areas of Building Information Modeling, Lean Construction, Leadership, and more. Faculty were recently honored and presented during the 55th Annual Associated Schools of Construction Conference in Denver, Colorado.
There are many community engagement opportunities at the Gibbs College of Architecture. Recently, CNS students had the opportunity to help build two affordable housing units in Norman, Oklahoma, as part of their Construction Fundamentals Lab. These projects allow students to gain hands on experience while helping the community at the same time.
Over the course of the fall 2019 semester, the Gibbs College of Architecture Construction Science division is excited to host many events on and off campus. The fall and spring career fairs are excellent networking opportunities for current students looking for future employment upon graduation, with about 40 companies present at each of these events. The Construction Science division is also touring Ranger Stadium in Dallas this semester, hosting a trip to Top Golf, and a scholarship luncheon for its students. Gibbs College of Architecture is pleased to announce that Dr. Suchismita (Suchi) Bhattacharjee, Associate Dean of Academics and College Administration and Associate Professor of Interior Design, has received the campus-wide Graduate Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring of Graduate Students.
Gibbs College of Architecture is proud to announce that Dr. Wanda Katja Liebermann, associate professor of Architecture, has been awarded the University of Oklahoma Vice President for Research and Partnerships Award for Excellence in Research, Design, and Creative Expression in the Humanities and Fine Arts for her scholarly monograph, Architecture’s Disability Problem.
Dr. Tammy McCuen, Robert E. Busch Professor of Construction Science in the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma, is part of a team recognized with the campus-wide Award for Excellence in Transdisciplinary, Convergent Research.
