Creative Media Production student Avery Simon is making sure she soaks up every opportunity that Gaylord throws at her. Since she was a freshman, Simon has worked for, networked and created things for clients and professionals in the video production world.
“While at Gaylord I have received many opportunities. I was a part of the class that brought Al Roker and the Today Show onto the OU campus. I have traveled to Colorado to shoot for the JayMac awards, and last year, I produced a commercial that is now airing in Illinois,” Simon said. “But my favorite memories have occurred in the classroom. My professors are so dedicated to the students. Scott Hodgson has become my mentor at Gaylord and shown me the ropes.”
Simon’s involvement in her classes and throughout the college as an Ambassador and producer has furthered her passion for video production and paved the way for her career upon graduation in a few years.
After tinkering in a few areas in Gaylord College, Simon found her stride in documentary-style productions. Her video series on football player Nick Basquine’s injury can be found on Sooner Sports and showcases the natural storytelling ability and talent Simon possesses.
“There is no better way to learn than to be hands-on. Gaylord has emphasized the idea of experiential learning. Because of this, I have had so many opportunities and it has given me an understanding as to what the professional world will be like,” she said.
We can’t wait to see what you do next, Avery!
