Research

Part of our mission is to promote rigorous and meaningful research on the virtues and human flourishing. We are actively building a multilayered research community with scholars at various stages of their careers. We seek to enrich both the OU research community and the academic community at large with the most advanced research on flourishing and virtue.

Publications and Presentations

Since the Institute's founding in September 2015, our Leadership Team and other affiliated scholars have published several monographs, multiple articles and have delivered over 40 professional presentations. Learn more

Research Conferences

The Institute periodically hosts conferences which bring together scholars from across the U.S. and abroad to present their research and motivate new avenues of inquiry into flourishing and virtue. Attendance at these events is by invitation only.

Thus far, our research conferences have featured the presentation of papers which are planned for publication in a 15-volume series by Oxford University Press, edited by Institute director Dr. Nancy Snow.  The Institute has hosted (or is planning) the following conferences:

Humility: Reflections on Its Nature and Function
October 20-21, 2016

Integrity, Honesty, and Truth Seeking
September 8-9, 2017

Open-Mindedness and Perspective
February 9-10, 2018

Colloquium Series

In fall 2017 the Institute started an interdisciplinary monthly colloquium series where Institute-affiliated scholars and other OU researchers present their research on topics related to virtue and flourishing. These events are open to anyone from the OU community.
