Smoke & Mirrors is an exhibition of works that relate to concepts of deception, illusion and the unknown. Projects vary in media and include video, installation, photography, painting and sculpture.

A collection of media works shown in the Lightwell which has been darkened by a canopy of trashbags and tape.  These films are projected and projecting the ideas of undergraduate and graduate students alike.  Artists include:  Erica Johnson, Meagan Houghton, Mallory McCormick, Samantha Marquette, Dillon Votaw, Jasmyn Sauls, Matthew Kaney, Paul DuMond, Lindsay Allgood and Tara Najd Ahmadi.

The exhibition includes work from current OU School of Art students whom were involved in the first ever metal casting class taught during the Summer Semester by Alexandra Knox and Mike Hill. The Exhibit will also include works from OU Faculty Jonathan Hils. As well as visiting Artist Carl Billingsley from East Carolina University as well as visiting graduate students from East Carolina University Chris Wooten and Jesse Morrissey.


Las Ruinas: An Exploration of the Ancient Maya Civilization

October 11th to October 22nd

Seniors Nick Richardson, Dewey Hulsey and former Student Media employee Tyler Metcalfe, of the School of Art and Art History, traveled to the ancient Mayan settlements of Chitchen-Itza, Tulum and Uxmal.  These students agreed to share their experiences and their photos through the Las Ruinas installation in the Lightwell Gallery in the Fred Jones Center.

This is an exhibition of photo-manipulators, skilled image-makers, who physically cut, tear, weave, and stitch their taken images to create absolutely fascinating works.

Arizona based contemporary lithographer and mixed media artist Kathryn Polk, will visit the University of Oklahoma School or Art & Art History.  This visit will coincide with an exhibition of Polk’s Series The Non-Indigenous Woman and other selected works in the Lightwell Gallery.  This solo exhibition features 39 works and a small display of some of Polk’s sketches.  “Kathryn Polk is one of the foremost printmakers and artist in the world.” Says assistant OU printmaking professor Marwin Begaye. “ Because  of her energy, love for creating, and work in finding less toxic ways to do  stone lithography, she has brought new, fresh energy to a an age old process."
