Author/(co)editor of 5 books, including the recent The Oxford Handbook of Musical Variation (over 1100 pages), and nearly 20 essays, mostly on Beethoven, form, performance and analysis, philosophy of music, and variation form/technique. Venues include Intégral, The Journal of Musicology, Music Analysis, Music Theory Online, International Review of the Aesthetics and Sociology of Music, and others.
Lectures at Albany, Arkansas, Denver, Eastman, Florida State, Kansas, Ohio, Ole Miss, Mannes (as finalist for the Edward Aldwell Chair), McGill, Michigan State, Oklahoma State (philosophy department), Rice, Stanford, Stony Brook, and others. Presenter at national and international conferences, such as American Brahms Society, German Studies Association, SMA (Southampton and Dublin), and SMT.
Over 15 different graduate seminars at OU, on such topics as advanced harmonic theory, Beethoven's 32 Piano Sonatas, Beethoven's "Eroica," critical pedagogy, cyclical form, hermeneutic theory, performance and analysis, Schenkerian analysis, tonal/post-tonal connections, and variation form.
(Co)advisor of 9 Masters and doctoral dissertations, including a Brazilian PhD dissertation on performance and analysis. • Co-editor of Music Theory Spectrum and, previously, Music Theory Online. External reader/reviewer for tenure cases, Austrian Science Fund, Indiana UP, Springer, The Journal of Musicology and other musicology journals, and almost all major theory journals.
Recital venues have included Alfred University, Penn State, St. Paul's Festival in Nyack, Toledo Museum of Art, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater; concerts in Birmingham, Iowa City, Laredo, Port Huron, Sarnia (Canada), Wellfleet, Worcester, and elsewhere; concerto appearances with Drury-Civic, North Jersey, Rockland, and San Francisco Community Orchestras; collaboration with members of the Ying Quartet and with vocalists from Broadway and the NYC opera companies; numerous cabaret/theater gigs as pianist and conductor in NYC and nationally; several premiers, and his own "Three Songs on e.e. cummings" was performed at OU.
