Jonathan joined Fitness and Recreation in January of 2009. He received both his BS in Psychology (2006) and MS in Sports Administration (2009) from Missouri State University. Prior to taking his position at the University of Oklahoma, he was a graduate assistant for Missouri State University’s Department of Health, Physical Education, & Recreation and an intern for their Campus Recreation program.
Jonathan currently oversees the organization of sports leagues, officials training, recruitment, and administration of programmed events as well as assists with our extensive summer camp program. Jonathan holds American Heart Association instructor certification for CPR/AED/First Aid. You can also find Jonathan in the classroom each fall as he teaches First-Year Foundations.
Jonathan currently resides in Norman, Oklahoma, with Dr. Courtney Dewhirst (wife), James (son) and Emmaleigh (daughter). They have two puppies: Champ (Lab) and Tucker (Cavalier King Charles).
During his free time, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his wife, kids, dogs, family, and friends - as well as traveling. You can find Jonathan umpiring softball (youth through college) and officiating basketball (youth through high school). Jonathan is also the commissioner, and two-time champion, of a fantasy football league - Fat Boy Football.
When asked his favorite characteristic of Fitness and Recreation, Jonathan responded, "I enjoy being a mentor for young adults through sport and programmed activities."
