Derris will join Fit+Rec from Western Oklahoma State College (WOSC) where he currently serves as the Assistant Director to their WINDS program, a support services program designed to meet the special needs of students and funded through by a TRIO grant. In his role, he assists in building student athletes’ experiences by helping them achieve their academic, personal, career, and social goals as well as working to develop an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment. His first day at Fit+Rec will be on Monday, April 3.
At the University of Central Oklahoma’s (UCO) Wellness Center, prior to WOSC, Derris supported the center’s student staff, equipment planning, maintenance operations, budget, and developed and provided wellness programming. Further, he holds experience in working with UCO student-athletes and as a Resiliency Trainer for the military through Magellan Federal where he focused his attention on soldiers’ physical, mental, spiritual, nutritional, and sleep aspects of wellness.
Derris holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Fitness Management and a Master of Arts in General Psychology with a concentration on Sports Psychology from UCO. Further, he is certified as an EXOS Performance Specialist and Master Resilience Trainer with the United States Army.
He will be joined in Norman by his wife, Vivian, and their 4 year old son, Marcel. Further, they are expecting another child soon.
