Provost's Award for Outstanding Engaged Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity

Recipients of the Provost's Award for Outstanding Engaged Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity are recognized for engaged scholarship, research and creative activity that is conducted in a mutually beneficial community-university partnership that addresses critical community needs. This community-engaged and community-based work should have been undertaken during the past three years.

Award winners receive a one-time award of $2,000 and a framed certificate.

Nominations are due to the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost by November 1, 2024, through the Faculty Awards and Honors Packets Dropbox.


CRITERIA

Criteria that will be considered are the degree to which there is evidence of:

  • mutually beneficial partnership with community organizations and leaders; 
  • research addressing critical community needs;  
  • important and innovative community-based research within the last three years. 

NOMINATION PROCEDURES

Initiation

The Senior Vice President and Provost will solicit recommendations for the award by September 15 and announce appropriate schedules for processing the nominations. Furthermore, the solicitations will be posted on the appropriate campus website, for access by nominators and faculty on all campuses.

Recommendations

Any current member of the University of Oklahoma faculty or staff may nominate one or more Norman faculty for the Provost's Award for Outstanding Engaged Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity. Currently enrolled students may also nominate candidates.

Nominations should be forwarded to the respective dean for review and endorsement prior to final submission. An optional letter from the dean can be included but is not required.

Supporting Documentation

  1. Faculty Awards and Honors Cover Page (.pdf)
  2. A current curriculum vitae for the nominee;
  3. A letter of recommendation from the chair/director of the academic unit of the nominee which specifically indicates how the nominee meets the criteria for selection;    
  4. Up to three letters of reference (including the nominator’s statement of support), supporting the nomination from community partners and students;
  5. Any additional information which may be helpful, such as a letter of endorsement from the relevant dean

About the Nominator's Statement of Support

Please explain why you believe the nominee is an outstanding community-engaged researcher or teacher. Provide a brief description of how the faculty member uses best practices to facilitate community-engaged teaching or research/creative activity.  What impact has the faculty member had on the department, community, and/or students?  How does the faculty member actively and effectively engage with community to address community-identified needs? 

Submission

All materials listed above should be submitted as a single combined PDF from the appropriate Dean's Office to the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost via the Faculty Awards and Honors Packets Dropbox.

SELECTION PROCEDURES

Review

Nominations will be reviewed by the Provost's Faculty Awards Committee. The Committee shall consider only the formal nominations. The Committee may seek additional data about the nominees from supplemental sources, as appropriate.

Selection

The Provost's Faculty Awards Committee will forward its recommendation to the Provost no later than February 1.

The Senior Vice President and Provost will review the nomination materials and recommendation of the committee and will make the final selection. 

ANNOUNCEMENT

The final selection will be announced at the Norman Campus annual Faculty Awards and Honors ceremony.

PERQUISITES

Award winners receive a one-time award of $2,000 and a framed certificate.
