Suggestions for Your Shopping Center Assignment:
- US Census data may be obtained from the Census Bureau. It may also be obtained from ORIGINS database,
available online from the OU College of Business. If you use census data, you will need to look at the block level surrounding
your shopping center. Navigate around the web site to find the exact information that you may need.
- Some people that you may wish to consult:
- Local shoppers. Before undertaking a survey, be sure to obtain permission from either the firm or shopping center management.
If you are in doubt about who to contact, ask the merchants.
- Managers of large firms in your center. It is best to visit or call during non-busy periods of the day and ask for an appointment. Likewise,
you may wish to speak with the center's management firm.
- Personnel at the Norman City Planning Dept. You may wish to review proposed zoning and current regulations to decide if there are any
actions currently underway or proposed.
- Norman Chamber of Commerce. They may be able to provide you with general data pertaining to shopping patterns or trends that are relevant
to your analysis.
- I will be posting a list of groups with assigned shopping centers by Thursday afternoon. Those who did not attend class Wednesday are
still required to complete their group and individual assignments by Friday, 14 November. In addition, all groups must be ready for a brief
presentation (progress report) on Wednesday, 12 November. Details may be found here.
- Remember to contact me if you or the group have questions. I will continue to post additional information concerning this project as it
develops. See you in class Wednesday.
Read these supplementary notes for additional group information.
