Write a 4-6 page typewritten essay that persuades your audience to consider
your solution to a problem. Your essay may propose some action to solve
an
immediate problem, or it may propose a broad plan of action for a major
problem. Your essay should 1) describe the problem compellingly 2) clearly
state your
proposed solution and 3) convincingly justify your solution.
The authors of the most successful essays will:
1. include all the features of any good written argument.
2. have a clear, qualified and arguable claim that proposes a solution to a problem.
3. use the Toulmin system to outline a justification for the proposed solution.
4. analyze the target audience and use the analysis to make audience-based choices about the content and organization of the essay.
5. draft the essay at least once and have it reviewed by classmates.
6. organize the essay appropriately for the target audience.
7. avoid plagiarism.
8. integrate material from sources seamlessly into the essay.
9. thoughtfully review 2 classmates' essays using the Toulmin outline
