Dr. Beach is a former elementary teacher and reading specialist who has taught grades 1-5 in the United States and internationally. Her undergraduate teaching includes early literacy methods classes for early childhood education majors and reading methods classes for elementary education majors. Her graduate teaching includes reading research and theory classes, literacy leadership, curriculum theory, and teaching strategy classes. She spends time in first grade classes as part of her pen pal program between preservice teachers and first graders. She has worked in Slovakia and Kazakhstan with teachers and other educators on school reform for democratic practices and critical thinking and literacy. She is presently working in Armenia on a project to develop early literacy assessments and support teacher learning of how to do remediation to support every child reading in the primary grades.
