Courtney Beers Dewhirst is an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education in the Department of Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum at the University of Oklahoma. Her research has focused on the role of caregivers in promoting children’s development and has three integrated areas of focus: preparing teachers to be responsive to children’s developmental needs, reducing stress and building resilience in early childhood, and playing as a means for developmental growth. She has published peer reviewed articles in leading research journals in teacher education (e.g., Action in Teacher Education), early childhood education (e.g., Early Childhood Education Journal), and child development (e.g., Journal of Early Childhood Research). She is currently a member of several Happy Projects.
Fun fact: She spent her early childhood years living in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Before it rained, the air would smell like chocolate.
Encouraging note: The smile you gave that child this morning, the high-five you asked if you could give, the interest you showed in their artwork… it all made a difference. Thank you for what you do!
