Baines published the book Privatization of America’s Public Institutions: The Story of the American Sellout. The book describes the transformation of the military, K–12 public schools, public universities and colleges, and prisons into enterprises focused on generating profits for a select few. In many cases, privatization has limited accessibility, promoted segregation, fueled declining standards, increased costs and reduced quality.

Kim was also elected as the president of the Korean American Academy of Lifelong Education and joined the editorial team of the Journal of Transformative Education as the book review editor. (cont.) Kim and colleague Dr. Jihee Hwang received the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project Research Fellowship from the Indiana University Center for Postsecondary Research. They will conduct a study that examines how the community-based, high-impact education practices influence the community-engaged activities of arts alumni using two data sources: SNAAP data and the Local Arts Index.

SUSAN BERNARD B.S. ED. 1981
Bernard is the High School Equivalency coordinator at the OCCC Adult Learning Center. Working in adult education since 2002, in 2019, one of her students, Kenneth Lee Ludolph Jr., won the Outstanding Adult Learner of the Year Award given by the Coalition on Adult Basic Education. Bernard began tutoring Ludolph Jr. in February 2018 in an Oklahoma City prison halfway house, and he passed his high school equivalency test exactly two months after enrolling. She continued to mentor Kenneth, and he began college at OCCC majoring in automotive technology exactly three days after his release from the halfway house.
PAMELA FRY B.S. ED. 1979
Pamela Fry, Ph.D., was was named president of Oklahoma State University-Tulsa in June 2019. She had been the provost and vice president for academic affairs at the Tulsa campus since 2016. Fry is the third person and first female to lead OSU-Tulsa since it was founded in 1999. Fry served 12 years as a faculty member and administrator at the University of Oklahoma.
Her research focuses on analyzing teaching, learning and curriculum at the pre-kindergarten-12th-grade and collegiate levels. Frye was part of JRCoE’s inaugural hall of fame class known as the “75 Who Made a Difference.”
SHARI GATELY M.ED. STUDENT
Gateley was named assistant principal at Irving Middle School in Norman. Gateley begins the position in January 2020. Gateley previously taught at Putnam City West High School where she was a 2019 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year finalist and the 2017-2018 Putnam City District Teacher of the Year.
REBECCA GRIMES B.S. ED. 2014, M.ED. 2019
Grimes was named the 2019-2020 Monroe Elementary School Teacher of the Year for Norman Public Schools. Grimes teaches Pre-K at Monroe and is an adjunct faculty member at OU.
JULIE KLINGENSMITH B.S. ED. 2002, M.ED. 2010
Klingensmith was honored in Washington, D.C. in October as a recipient of the prestigious Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Klingensmith teaches math at Norman High School in Norman Public Schools. Klingensmith was named president of the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of Mathematics from 2014-2016, the Oklahoma-Arkansas math teacher of the year for the Mathematical Association of America in 2011 and has served as an adjunct at the University of Oklahoma. She was also named the JRCoE Outstanding Young Educator at the 2017 Celebration of Education in Oklahoma. Klingensmith is passionate about professional development and giving teachers the time and resources to collaborate.

Maclin was appointed as the assistant dean of students and executive director of Housing and Residence Life at OU. Maclin was previously the assistant vice president and dean of students at Tarleton State University. She began her role at OU on Nov. 18.

Magee was named Eskridge Honda Impactful Teacher for November 2019. Magee teaches at Jefferson Elementary in Norman and is an adjunct faculty member in the JRCoE early childhood education program.
HOLLY (SWANSON) NEVELS B.S. ED. 1995, M.ED. 2002
This summer Nevels was named assistant superintendent of personnel services and Title IX coordinator in Norman Public Schools. She previously served as assistant superintendent of student services and director of elementary and secondary education in Norman.

HOMER PAUL
Paul died on July 1. He was a longtime supporter of the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education and a 1954 graduate of OU.
JULIA PRISE B.S. ED. 2014, M.ED. 2019
Prise was named the 2019-20 Norman High School Teacher of the Year. Prise teaches mathematics at Norman High and is an adjunct faculty member at OU.
DALTON SAVAGE TE PLUS 2016; M.ED. STUDENT
Savage received the Clara Luper Rising Star Award from the Oklahoma Council for Social Studies. Savage is at Edmond Memorial High School, teaching Oklahoma History and Advanced Placement Human Geography. He is also currently working on his master’s degree. at OU.
SHIRLEY SIMMONS PH.D. 2004
Simmons was named District 7 Assistant Superintendent of the Year by the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators and was named 2019 American Association of School Librarians Distinguished Administrator of the Year. Simmons is currently the assistant superintendent of educational services in Norman Public Schools.

ANDREA SUK AND FAYE AUTRY-SCHREFFLER PH.D. STUDENTS
Suk and Autry-Schreffler, both doctoral candidates in the special education program, presented a six-hour conference session for Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International. Titled “Horsin’ Around: Behavioral Strategies for Participants in Equine-Assist Activities and Therapy Centers,” Suk and Autry-Schreffler covered the principles of behavior, how to increase desired behaviors, how to decrease un-desirable behaviors, teaching strategies and research information and opportunities. Participants even used saddles to participate in a hands-on task analysis activity. They were able to assist session participants how the topic applies to children with disabilities, adults with disabilities and veterans.
MURAT TURK PH.D. STUDENT
Turk won an Outstanding Journal Article award in the Research and Theory division at the Association for Educational Communications and Technology national conference for his collaboration on “Revisiting cognitive tools from a social and motivational perspective” in Australasian Journal of Educational Technology, 35(2), 39-51. https://doi.org/10.14742/ajet.4887. One of his collaborators was Professor Xun Ge of the instructional psychology and technology program.
TESSA TURNER M.ED. 1984
Tuner was appointed director of diversity and inclusion at Heritage Hall. She previously served as director of the student-athlete experience at OU.
