Abstract
This is an overview documenting the history of the internet from conception through today, and looks at how effectively it is used within DoD. The policy and guidance from top level policy makers dictate what the purpose of the web is, and it is this purpose statement th a t webmasters use when creating military web sites. This documentation looks at the theoretical perspectives of Chaos, Uses and Gratification, and Agenda-setting theories to provide suggestions in better enhancing the effectiveness and overall goal of mili t ary web sites. A current proposal by the Air Force to standardize web sites, and creating a control point for information on the web is making DoD webmasters rethink the way they put information out to the public. Further research into this area is necess ary to determine what the true purpose of a web site is, how effective is the information out there, and is one point of control necessary in order to improve upon what DoD has done with the internet. |
