Training & Development

The office offers a range of assessment workshops that are open to all Student Affairs staff on a semester basis, along with custom trainings that departments can request to include in retreats or planning meetings.

The Office of Assessment & Planning partners with departments to align their goals with the Division’s strategic priorities. The office offers guidance, templates, and consultation to help departments develop meaningful outcomes and measurable KPIs that drive continuous improvement.

What SAAP can offer

  • Supporting departments in reviewing and mapping their goals in alignment with the Division of Student Affairs’ strategic plan.
  • Providing user-friendly resources for developing measurable key performance indicators (KPIs) and/or student-centered learning outcomes.
  • Consulting departments on the process of designing assessment plans that connect their goals, outcomes, methods, and measures for ongoing evaluation and improvement.
  • Drafting strategic plan, assessment plan, and KPIs or learning outcomes on behalf of departments.
  • Departments are expected to lead the drafting of their own plans with A&P providing consultation and tools, not authorship.
  • Support is provided through shared templates and guided sessions, not as a fully outsourced service.

  • Providing supports and guidance to departments throughout the assessment process.
  • Consulting and reviewing departmental instrument and/or data collection methods.
  • By request and based on availability, creating quantitative (e.g., surveys) or qualitative (e.g., interview/focus group) instruments, with prioritization for projects aligned with divisional priorities.
  • Providing additional support for survey distribution.
  • By request and based on availability, providing assistance in qualitative data collection (e.g., conducting or co-facilitating focus groups).
  • Cleaning and analyzing data, and generating summary reports based on assessment findings.
  • By request and based on availability, developing interactive simple Power BI dashboard(s).
  • By request and based on availability, meeting with departments to review results, answer questions, provide additional insights/analysis and guidance on data-informed decision-making.
  • Managing timelines, communications, and logistics of their own assessment/research efforts.
  • Real-time or expedited data analysis for all projects (Standard turnaround is 4–6 weeks after data collection, depending on complexity and project queue. Departments using Baseline or Qualtrics for quantitative surveys may preview basic descriptive results directly within those platforms prior to formal data cleaning and analysis.)
  • Long-term facilitation of focus groups or interviews across multiple departments simultaneously: Support may be offered selectively based on needs and availability, not as a recurring service for all departments.
  • Maintaining ongoing data collection systems.
  • Creating fully custom Power BI dashboards for all departments. For additional support, please contact IT or Institutional Research & Reporting.

  • Creating standardized templates for departments to report outcomes, measures, findings, and improvements.
  • Offering feedback and coaching on submitted assessment plans and end-of-year reports.
  • Providing reminders and serving as accountability partner to ensure completion.
  • Writing departmental assessment reports on behalf of department.
  • Managing internal deadlines, reminders, or data collection logistics for individual departments — each department is responsible for tracking its own reporting timeline.
  • Reviewing multiple iterations or drafts of the same report beyond the standard feedback process.
  • Serving as the sole accountability agent for ensuring departmental reporting compliance.
  • Designing an impact/assessment report for individual department.

  • Maintaining access and overseeing project setup within Anthology Baseline.
  • Connecting departmental data to institutional metrics, benchmark data, and large-scale survey results to provide context and alignment with broader goals.
  • Serving as the primary data manager for departmental systems or operational data sets.
  • Developing custom data infrastructure or long-term data warehouses for individual departments
  • Providing individual-level or sensitive student data unless approved through appropriate institutional protocols (e.g., IRB, Data Governance).
  • By request and based on availability, collaborating on ad hoc research, assessment, or evaluation projects that support departmental or divisional priorities.
  • Quarterly newsletter featuring assessment spotlights, internal and external professional development opportunities, and relevant resources.
  • Collaborating as needed with the Office of the Vice President to support data-oriented think tanks that help departments engage with current data and develop data-informed strategies.
