Julian Sabisch Joins the Samuel Roberts Noble Microscopy Laboratory

Julian Sabisch will join the Samuel Roberts Noble Microscopy Laboratory (SRNML) in July as a transmission electron microscopy and imaging research scientist. Sabisch will operate, maintain, supervise and provide research-related training principally on transmission electron microscopy and related equipment in the core light/electron imaging facility.

As a part of the SRNML, Dr. Sabisch will be working with those who use electron microscopy, particularly transmission electron microscopy (TEM). With TEM, researchers can image and analyze the chemistry and composition of materials at scales down to groups of individual atoms. Researchers at OU using TEM include people from aerospace and mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemistry/biochemistry, chemical/biochemical/materials engineering, geosciences, microbiology, physics, and many other fields.

Sabisch received his B.S, M.S and doctorate in materials science and engineering, from the University of California at Berkeley. Through his graduate school studies, his areas of research interest focused on electron microscopy investigations of unique metallurgical species. This focus on metallurgy and microscopy continued at his post-doctoral research position at Sandia National Laboratories, Livermore. There, he investigated fundamental mechanisms through which metals deformed using advanced electron microscopy techniques.
