NORMAN, OKLA. —  The University of Oklahoma’s EMBA in Energy program ranked No. 2 nationally in a recent list of the 10 Best Online MBA in Energy programs.

The hybrid degree program, which launched in 2014 in the Michael F. Price College of Business, bested energy-related MBAs and EMBAs at Rice University, Duke University and TCU, among others in the ranking, which was published on EnergyDegrees.org. OU’s EMBA in Energy was second only to a specialized MBA at the University of California, Berkeley.

“We have created this program to equip energy professionals for success as industry leaders,” said Dipankar Ghosh, executive director of Price College’s Energy Institute and David Ross Boyd Professor. “We routinely hear from our alumni about the life-changing impact of this program. To receive recognition like this affirms the caliber of this degree and inspires us as we continue to adapt the program to meet the needs of the expanding energy sector.”

The recognition highlighted the fact that Price College’s program enables students to specialize in hydrocarbons or renewables, network with program alumni and broaden their energy perspective through the international module.

Rankings criteria included: accreditation, affordability, delivery format, energy concentrations and curriculum, reputation, and student outcomes.

The rankings methodology favored programs that offered multiple energy tracks; were fully or mostly online; and had affordable tuition prices. The methodology also integrated the schools’ U.S. News & World Report rankings to add an external validation layer.

EnergyDegrees.org is run by Degree Prospects, a company that has been in the business of higher education publications for 15 years. The website’s team comprises energy professionals, including several with advanced degrees in the energy space.

OU’s 100% energy-focused degree offers two specializations: Renewables and Hydrocarbons. Through 31 courses taken over 15 months, graduates develop an informed, holistic view of the industry with classmates and faculty from all sectors of energy across the country and globe.

Students can participate from anywhere in the world as six of the program’s modules are delivered online while three modules take place in person. The first and last residency weeks happen at OU’s Norman campus while the second takes place in Europe, where students visit companies, meet energy leaders and experience the local culture.

A vast majority of program faculty are senior-level energy executives, ensuring the program remains current, relevant and forward-looking.

OU boasts a 100-year history in energy education, while Price College has over 60 years in energy management education. The EMBA in Energy is administered by the Price College Energy Institute, which provides a platform for thought leadership and intellectual exchange on important issues confronting today’s domestic and global energy business.

Previous EMBA in Energy program recognition includes No. 1 Energy Graduate Program (Hart Energy’s Oil & Gas Investor Magazine, 2020); Top 10 Business Schools for Energy/Natural Resources (FINDMBA, 2021) and No. 10 (Ivy Exec’s EMBA Rankings, U.S. Southwest, 2021).
