NORMAN, Okla. — Running counter to a nationwide decline in the number of students pursuing an accounting degree, the University of Oklahoma’s Michael F. Price College of Business Master of Accountancy program reports increased enrollment heading into the 2023-24 school year.
Nearly 250 students total are enrolled this fall in OU’s Master of Accountancy programs, a 4% increase over last year. Nationally, accounting schools are reporting an average decline in enrollment of 17%.
"We’re thrilled to see such strong interest in our Master of Accountancy program, particularly while similar programs across the nation are seeing historic declines in enrollment," said Joseph Dulin, Director of the Master Accountancy programs at OU’s Price College. “Our leadership, faculty and staff have built an exceptional program that has stayed ahead of industry trends and is preparing students to not only sit for the CPA exam, but also to have the future-ready skills employers are looking for.”
The John T. Steed School of Accounting at Price College is one of a select number of accounting programs in the nation with its own accreditation with Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. This additional accounting accreditation provides an elevated quality assurance system for the program and signifies Price College’s commitment to strategic management, learner success, thought leadership, and societal impact.
“The skills accounting students learn allows them to be all they can be in the business world.” Dulin said. “Our Master of Accountancy students leave here technically proficient and ready to pass the CPA exam. Any student who wants a job after graduation has a job waiting for them. Often, our students who begin the program without a full-time accounting position receive multiple job offers well before they complete the program .”
