Chad Marriott

Chad Marriott leads Stoel Rives LLP’s wind energy subgroup and serves as counsel to sponsors, owners, and investors in the development, sale, acquisition, and financing of renewable generation projects throughout the United States. In the past few years, Chad has worked heavily in the wind, solar, and battery energy storage spaces, serving as sponsor’s counsel in the negotiation of more than $3 billion in tax equity and separate cash equity investments in 900 MW of renewable energy projects. Separately, Chad has led teams advising on the acquisition of historic wind assets for repowering and served as lead counsel on the acquisition of both operational and development-stage wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects in the United States and Canada.

From the firm’s Portland, Oregon, office, Chad maintains a national practice in energy project finance and M&A, having financed more than 4.3 GW of wind projects from North Dakota to Texas and more than 500 MW of utility-scale and community solar projects in Texas, Nevada, Minnesota, and Massachusetts.

In 2021, Chad was recognized by Chambers USA as an “Up and Coming” attorney for his work in the firm’s nationally ranked Renewables & Alternative Energy practice. In addition, Chad was named to A Word About Wind’s Top 100 Legal Power List 2020, a list of the 100 most influential lawyers working globally on the financing of wind energy projects, and in 2016 was selected for the American Wind Energy Association’s Emerging Leaders Program. His broad experience in finance, M&A, and state and federal utility regulation has proven valuable to clients at the various stages of project development, construction, operation, and repowering.
