OLLI at OU Programs

OLLI at OU

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) is a community where adults come together to achieve personal transformation of mind, body, and spirit through lifelong learning and community service. OLLI’s mission is to promote accessible lifelong learning, individual growth, and social connection for learners aged 50 and older.

The institute offers stimulating opportunities to enhance the intellectual, social, and cultural lives of its members, regardless of their educational background. Through reasonably priced tiered memberships, OLLI provides non-credit courses, special lectures, Lunch and Learn outings, events, and trips. The intellectually stimulating non-credit classes are taught by current and retired professors from the University of Oklahoma, as well as professionals from various disciplines.

Courses are held in a welcoming environment, free from the academic pressures typically associated with formal degree programs. There are no textbooks required, and students do not have to worry about exams, papers, or grades. To join, all that is needed is an interest in academic learning, a desire to engage with peers, and an openness to new possibilities.

OLLI is partially funded by the Bernard Osher Foundation, which supports educational programs and the arts. OLLI at OU is one of 125 institutes across all 50 states funded by the Foundation.

Senior Seminars

Senior seminars offer a welcoming environment similar to traditional courses while celebrating the diverse interests of participants. With a range of topics like Shakespeare, Cinematic Theatre, Music in the Middle Ages, Cryptocurrency, and a discussion group focusing on relatable everyday issues for our OLLI members, there’s truly something for everyone to connect with and explore. Each course lasts four to six weeks, offering an educational experience that is both enjoyable and inspiring.

These non-credit courses acknowledge the unique journeys of adult learners, enabling them to explore specific topics while sharing their life experiences with others in a supportive environment. By meeting weekly for about two hours, these sessions create a wonderful opportunity for adults to get out, engage with others, and become part of a community that values their perspectives and contributions.
