PACS Student Spotlight: Mabel Sigala Hernandez

Student Spotlight: Mabel Sigala Hernandez

Mabel Sigala Hernandez.

Mabel Sigala Hernandez is graduating this month, signaling the completion of a purposeful journey shaped by her diligence and adaptability.

She graduated high school in 2018, and had started her associates in General Business Management at Oklahoma State University. While working full-time to fund her studies alongside academic responsibilities had extended her academic timeline, she had remained consistent in her efforts and completed her associates degree in 2024. Extending this foundation, she later enrolled within the College of Professional and Continuing Studies Construction Management program, due its strong alignment with her interests.

Mabel discovered the PACS program while researching online degree options after completing her previous associates. She describes her experience as well-supported and smoothly structured, highlighting her appreciation and value of academic advising, particularly the guidance she received from an advisor, Emily Aias.

She also noted that the courses were thoughtfully designed and the skills learned contributed directly to her professional development. Her favorite moment at PACS, however, was the student event at Factory Obscura, in Oklahoma City. “It was nice to put faces to names that I am always corresponding with”.

Mabel currently works for a company that builds storage facilities, where she serves in an HR role. Throughout both her academic experiences, she has maintained a strong focus on communication and organizational development. She noted that coursework in communication and leadership has been especially impactful throughout her journey, strengthening her confidence in professional settings. She also acknowledged instructors with an hands-on approach, making online classes have more of a college experience. Her time in higher education has been defined by balance, with full-time employment and other responsibilities. As she worked Monday to Saturdays, Mabel expressed that she often had a long Sunday. From the moment she woke up until into the night  was spent completing assignments. When she had free time at work, she would also aim to complete as much as she could. She credits her diligence to being very strict with herself and her free time, following her well curated schedule at all times.

A first-generation college student, Mabel lives in Edmond with her wife and two dogs. Looking ahead, Mabel plans to take a short break before pursuing new professional opportunities, with the long-term goal of continuing her education at the graduate level.  Her advice to students includes “Just keep going. Do not give up, as if you really want it, you will find a way”.

As she graduates, Mabel represents the drive and clarity that defines the graduating class of 2026. Her journey is a commitment to growth and continued professional advancement.
