NORMAN, OKLA. – The University of Oklahoma School of Music has earned designation as an All-Steinway School, marking the culmination of a nearly 20-year effort to provide students and faculty with Steinway pianos throughout the school.
The designation will be formally announced Sept. 24 during the School of Music’s Musical Mosaic concert at Sharp Concert Hall.
“Becoming an All-Steinway School ensures all of our students have access to the best pianos available,” said Jonathan Nichol, D.M.A., director of the OU School of Music. “Our majors play on world-class instruments and every student performing a recital is supported by a top-quality Steinway.”
All-Steinway institutions provide Steinway-designed pianos throughout their music programs, from practice rooms to performance spaces. The designation places OU among 255 All-Steinway institutions worldwide, including the Yale School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, University of Florida, University of Georgia and University of Texas.
“The All-Steinway designation recognizes program quality and prestige,” Nichol said. “Many top music programs hold the title, and by joining them, we become part of an elite group of schools nationally and internationally recognized for artistic excellence.”
The School of Music will celebrate the designation during the Sutton Concert Series presentation of “Musical Mosaic: An American Celebration” at 8 p.m. Sept. 24 in Paul F. Sharp Concert Hall in the Catlett Music Center. Admission is $11 and tickets can be purchased online.

Min Li, Ph.D., George Lynn Cross Research Professor of Medicine, Surgery and Cell Biology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and Associate Director for Global Oncology at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center, has been named president of the International Association of Pancreatology.
The University of Oklahoma welcomed Siddhartha Mukherjee to campus for the Presidential Speakers Series dinner on the evening of Sept. 9 at the Oklahoma Memorial Union. Mukherjee — an oncologist, entrepreneur and Pulitzer Prize-winning author — delivered a talk titled “Research and the Future of Medicine.”
