OU Shines in preLaw's Rankings for Practical Training

March 8, 2024

NORMAN, OKLA. – The University of Oklahoma College of Law ranks 12th in the nation in preparing students for the real world of law practice published in National Jurist’s spring 2024 issue of prelaw magazine. This accomplishment adds to an already distinguished record from nationally recognized rankings.

“As the legal industry rapidly evolves, proficiency in legal technology is no longer optional but a fundamental requirement for lawyers to stay relevant and competitive in the national arena,” said Sean Harrington, director of technology innovation at the University of Oklahoma College of Law.

Major factors influencing this ranking are OU Law’s experiential course offerings, which include classes focused on developing skills required to effectively represent clients; clinics in which students represent actual clients while working under the supervision of licensed attorneys; judicial, government and non-profit externship placements; and the Digital Initiative – a required training that equips law students with vital technology skills, giving them a competitive advantage in the legal profession.

“The focus of our Experiential Learning program is to allow students to develop and improve critical lawyering skills in a ‘low stakes’ educational environment,” said Gail Mullins, associate dean of graduate programs and experiential learning for the OU College of Law. “Our supervising attorneys, clinic faculty, simulation-course faculty and competition coaches all understand the importance of giving students an opportunity to practice and develop new skills while giving students individualized support and feedback.”

Going Over Giving Day

As we find ourselves a few weeks past OU’s Giving Day, I've had the chance to reflect on the incredible support shown by Gaylord College’s community. With each passing day, my gratitude has only deepened. It was a joy to witness the collective effort of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and donors coming together to champion our programs and students, and I take immense pride in the dedication and hard work exhibited by the team of students I had the privilege to collaborate with to make Giving Day a success. Their passion and commitment were evident in every aspect of our accomplishment, making the day not only impactful but also enjoyable.
