NORMAN, OKLA. – Psychology professor Shane Connelly, Ph.D., has been selected as the University of Oklahoma’s recipient of the Faculty Achievement Award supported by the Southeastern Conference. Member schools’ recipients go on to compete for a national SEC Professor of the Year award selected from the colleges’ nominees.
“We are immensely proud of Dr. Connelly for earning this prestigious recognition,” said OU Senior Vice President and Provost André-Denis Wright. “Her impactful research, leadership, and dedication to advancing knowledge exemplify the highest standards of academic excellence. We are grateful for her significant contributions to advancing our academic and research goals at the University of Oklahoma.”
Connelly is the director of the OU Institute for Community and Society Transformation, co-director of the Center for Applied Social Research, a George Lynn Cross Professor and a leading Industrial/Organizational psychologist. She has published more than 150 articles and book chapters and has received more than $15 million in research grants from agencies, including the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the US Army Research Institute.
She serves on many editorial boards of journals, including The Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Business and Psychology, Frontiers in Psychology, and Human Performance. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Academy of Management and a fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Association for Psychological Science.
Her research focuses on leadership, particularly the role of emotions in leadership dynamics, skills that contribute to effective leadership over time, as well as ethical decision-making in organizations, with an emphasis on assessing and training research ethics across scientific fields. She also investigates psychological processes associated with ideological extremism and ideological communication in online settings.
Prior to joining OU in 1999, Connelly held roles as a project director and research scientist with the American Institutes for Research where she collaborated with several federal agencies on workplace interventions. She has also served as a personnel psychologist with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She has a doctorate and master’s degree from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree from Loyola College, Baltimore.

Mary Margaret Holt, dean of the University of Oklahoma Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts, has been honored with the Paseo Arts Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her leadership and contributions to Oklahoma’s arts community.
With winter weather already bringing low temperatures to the state, the Oklahoma Poison Center is urging residents to take extra precautions to avoid carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning as they begin heating their homes for the winter season. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly when inhaled in large quantities, and it poses a heightened risk as people rely on heating devices for warmth during cold weather.
Thanks to support from the Chickasaw Nation, the University of Oklahoma College of Law has announced the continuation and expansion of the Chickasaw Nation – Henry Family Lecture Series. Under the new name, the event will continue to showcase thought-provoking discourse surrounding the rule of law.
