OKC Metro Invited to Holiday Celebration at the Sam Noble Museum

December 7, 2023

NORMAN, OKLA – The Sam Noble Museum is inviting families to stop by and experience a natural history holiday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9. Hooray for the Holidays is presented as the latest installment of the museum’s Curiousiday event series, which focuses on teaching through games, activities and interactive exhibits.

“Hooray for the Holidays is so special because it captures the magic that arrives when we approach the end of the year and celebrates the season with a focus on the natural and cultural world,” said Catarina de Araujo, head of education at the Sam Noble Museum. “How do animals and people adapt and prepare for winter? Booths and activities will focus on winter themes, but we will also feature holiday games and crafts. Visitors will receive a passport to stamp at different stations, so at the end, they can get a prize. Tasks include talking to a scientist, making a craft, looking at specimens or going into the ice age cave.”

Curiousiday events are aimed at teaching and educating guests while ensuring visitors of all ages have an exciting and enjoyable experience at the same time.

“We have over 10 activities visitors can explore,” de Araujo noted. “Informational booths led by scientists will feature animal specimens and human-made objects related to winter adaptation. Crafts will include dinosaur ornaments, decorating personalized wrapping paper and making paper luminaria candles. We will also have activities like the candy cane toss, a paper snowflake air cannon and a guessing game that can get pretty icy.”

Finally, visitors will learn how good little dinosaurs got their presents millions of years ago.

“Our exhibitions team has put together a life-size sleigh led by two caribou, or reindeer, from our mammalogy collection,” de Araujo said. “Santasaurus himself will also be making an appearance to entertain visitors. It will be loads of fun, and I’m certain families will be inspired by this beautiful season and make plenty of memories.”
