HSP Scholar Spotlight: LJ Goldston

HSP Scholar Spotlight: LJ Goldston

Class of 2025
HSP Scholar, LJ Goldston.

Though the year is coming to a close, the semester has been no less eventful. This past semester, LJ Goldston, a Third Year Scholar majoring in Public Relations and International Studies, acted as Vice Chair of Recruitment for CAC’s High School Leadership Conference. Spanning three days, HSLC brings high school juniors to campus to learn about leading, teamwork, and personal development. LJ and the rest of the executive team have been hard at work to bring this experience to life.

When it comes to HSLC, LJ began as a Group Counselor, mentoring students throughout the conference. Hoping to bring a more diverse range of students to the conference, he took up the role of Vice Chair of Recruitment this past year. Disparities in opportunity, whether they be ethnic, economic, or even geographical, are what pushed him to step up and make HSLC more inclusive for all students.

Through countless email campaigns and school visits, LJ shared that one of the greatest things he learned through this role was the ability to be patient and maintain a strong culture within the organization—after all, the fruits of the Recruitment committee’s labor wouldn’t be seen until students set foot on campus at the Conference itself in February.

HSLC isn’t the only place LJ leads; currently serving as the President of the National Panhellenic Council at OU, his goal is to promote unity and intentionality.

Going into his final year at OU, LJ wishes to further be a resource to other students in and out of HSP, while preparing himself for his professional life ahead. He cited many areas on campus as his support systems throughout his own college career, including the Henderson Scholars Program, the Office of Student Life, and the various professors and peers he meets on a daily basis.

About the Henderson Scholars Program

In 1999 there was a vision to honor Dr. George Henderson by establishing a scholarship program in his name. This vision became a reality in 2001, the Henderson Scholars Program officially came into fruition. For more information visit ou.edu/hsp.
