The Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture Institute for Quality Communities is proud to announce the visit of Clyde Higgs, President and CEO of Atlanta BeltLine Inc., on Thursday, April 11th to share stories and lessons learned from the iconic Atlanta BeltLine project. The event will take place at Gould Hall’s Buskuhl Gallery from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. RSVP is required to attend.
The Atlanta BeltLine is an internationally recognized urban revitalization effort that has demonstrated how greenspace and a historic railway can serve as catalysts for economic development, connectivity, cultural preservation, and transformative design. Higgs will discuss how the project has created opportunities for cultural flourishing, inclusive economic development, strengthened social cohesion, and stronger neighborhoods in Atlanta.
This special event has been inspired by an ongoing collaboration between Environmental Design and Interior Design Studio 4 students at Gibbs College and the community of Taft, one of Oklahoma’s existing Black townships. Under the guidance of College of Architecture faculty Mia Kile, Marco Piscitelli, and Vanessa Morrison, students are working with Taft community leaders on their existing projects to reimagine an abandoned railway and historic school site to support placemaking, cultural tourism, and quality of life goals.
During his visit, Higgs will share insights on the BeltLine’s successes and challenges, and how the project’s lessons can be applied to revitalization efforts in other communities. The event will conclude with a moderated discussion, providing attendees an opportunity to engage with Higgs and ask questions.

A team of Construction Science and Architecture students from the Gibbs College of Architecture made their mark on the national stage this week, earning third place out of 37 universities competing at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Student Competition, held during the International Builders' Show in Orlando, February 16-18, 2026.
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has elevated Gary Armbruster, FAIA, ALEP to its prestigious College of Fellows—AIA’s highest membership honor—for his exceptional work and sustained contributions to architecture and society. Fellowship recognizes architects who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession and made a significant impact at a national level. Members elevated to this distinction carry the FAIA designation after their name.
Students from the Spring 2026 Graduate 4 Architecture Design Studio, led by Professor Amy Leveno, exhibited their work at the School of Visual Arts. The exhibition, titled Reimagining the OU School of Visual Arts, featured drawings, models, and animations developed throughout the semester's studio project. The show was hosted in The Spotlight, a creative gallery space located on the first floor of the Fred Jones Art Center, and ran from January 20–30, 2026.
