René Peralta, a lecturer in the Division of Architecture, was invited to present at the 2023 AIA Oklahoma Conference. The conference will take place in Enid, Oklahoma, from Oct. 5-6 and will feature a variety of guest speakers, activities and presentations.

Peralta’s presentation, AI + Architecture: Designing a New Paradigm (1LU), will take place on Oct. 6 from 2-3 p.m. For his presentation, he will explore how artificial intelligence applications are reshaping the Architecture studio creative process, fueling innovation and charting a path towards the creation of new realities.

Peralta is an advocate for the integration of AI in Architecture education. In the spring 2023 semester, he implemented this technology in his studio course as a part of a semester long project. His students were the first at Gibbs College to use an AI image-generating program to aid in the design process.

He is also the author of the upcoming short story “Border Astronaut.” This story employs AI as a technique and medium to delve into the future of the US/Mexico border region, presenting it in a surreal and dreamy perspective. It will be showcased in the “Planetary Frontlines” exhibition at the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale 2023 Venice Virtual Pavilion. The exhibition is set to launch on Sept. 22.
