OU Gibbs College is pleased to announce that Thomas Kang is invited to give a public lecture in the upcoming fall semester. Thomas Kang is a professor in the Department of Architecture & Architectural Engineering at Seoul National University (SNU) in Korea. Before that, he was a professor in the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at OU and has held various affiliated positions at universities around the world.
For his lecture, Professor Kang will discuss topics related to architecture, structure, and construction. He has a vast knowledge of the design and behavior of reinforced, prestressed, and post-tensioned concrete structures, as well as the dynamic effects caused by wind, seismic, fire, and impulse. The lecture will take place on Friday, October 13 at 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 pm., location TBD.
Professor Kang received his Bachelor of Architecture from SNU, his Master of Civil Engineering from Michigan State University, and his Doctor of Civil Engineering from the University of California Los Angeles. Alongside his career as a professor, Kang is a fellow and technical advisory board member of the Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI), a fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), and a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea and the EU Academy of Sciences. He also serves as editor-in-chief for Wind and Structures and associate editor for PTI Journal, and has published over 150 international journal papers.

Petya Stefanoff, Chair of the Educational Committee with the American Planning Association, Oklahoma Chapter (APA-OK) and Gibbs College PhD candidate, has developed a new training program for local government officials. The program, focused on land use, zoning principles, and land development, recently certified its first graduates with Certified Citizen Planner status.
Gibbs Construction Science and Architecture students recently traveled to Dublin, Ireland, to compete in the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 8 Student Competition. The team partnered with Czech Technical University and secured third place in the Design-Build category.
Gibbs College is pleased to present the exhibition Vollendorf in Oklahoma: The Architecture of Dean Bryant Vollendorf during the Spring 2026 semester. It will be on display in Gould Hall, on the OU-Norman Campus, from February 16, 2026 - March 13, 2026.
