On Tuesday November 2nd at 3:00pm, join Jesús Vassallo on Zoom for his next lecture titled, “Rice Affordable Housing Lab.”
At Rice University, Vassallo is the director of the Affordable Housing Laboratory, a unit providing research and development for community development corporations and other nonprofits in the affordable housing sector.
Jesús Vassallo is a Spanish architect and writer, and currently an associate professor at Rice University. His work focuses on the problem of realism in architecture through the production of design and scholarship. Vassallo studied architecture at Harvard GSD and Madrid ETSAM. Vassallo recently opened his own design practice in Houston, where he has focused on a series of projects that study the relationship between architectural form and urban space through a focus on housing.

Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture congratulates Thinh "Henry" Duong, a master's student in the Division of Interior Design, for earning first place in the 2026 Robert Bruce Thompson Annual Student Light Fixture Design Competition.
Gibbs College of Architecture Institute for Quality Communities (IQC) Director and Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Design (PLAD) faculty member Amber N. Wiley, Ph.D., recently published a new book, Collective Yearning: Black Women Artists from the Zimmerli Art Museum.
In May, students from the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture's Architecture, Environmental Design, and Interior Design programs participated in an intensive five-day Studio in Residence at Taliesin West, the iconic winter home and desert laboratory of Frank Lloyd Wright.
