Tuesday, October 19th from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, join Gibbs College and Dr. Kathryn Anthony, ACSA Distinguished Professor at the School of Architecture, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, for a faculty workshop: “Reflecting on the 30th Anniversary of Design Juries on Trial: A Reset for a New Generation.”
The workshop, held on Zoom, will discuss how architectural educators can transform design reviews into better teaching and learning experiences for students, faculty, and visitors.
Kathryn H. Anthony Ph.D. is the longest-serving female faculty member in the history of the School of Architecture, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is the recipient of national awards from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA), American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award from Chicago Women in Architecture (CWA).
She recently received the 2021 AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education, the highest award bestowed upon an architectural educator.
A frequent media spokesperson on diversity issues in design, her books include Defined by Design: The Surprising Power of Hidden Gender, Age and Body Bias in Everyday Products and Places; Shedding New Light on Art Museum Additions: Front Stage and Back Stage Experiences (co-authored with Altaf Engineer); Designing for Diversity: Gender, Race, and Ethnicity in the Architectural Profession; and Design Juries on Trial: The Renaissance of the Design Studio. She has also testified before the US Congress about gender issues in design.

Telesis, the Gibbs College of Architecture’s student journal, has been awarded a grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts to support its next two issues, “Pause” (Volume IX) and “React” (Volume X).
Gibbs College of Architecture is pleased to announce that Amber N. Wiley, Ph.D., associate professor in the Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture and Design and director of the Institute for Quality Communities, has been named to the shortlist for the Museum of African American History (MAAH) Stone Book Award for her book, Model Schools in the Model City. The book was one of 14 titles selected from 158 eligible submissions for the 2026 award.
