Now Hiring! Gibbs College Seeks Creating_Making Lab Manager

The Christopher C. Gibb’s College of Architecture is seeking an individual to assist with management of operations of the Creating_Making and Digital_Making Labs to include all aspects of operating a model shop/research lab with tools, equipment and machinery with a high degree of expertise and safety along with Summer tasks to include the betterment of all Gibbs College of Architecture facilities to best suit the changing academic needs. Learn more and apply

Duties Include: 

  • Conduct workshops and training programs related to the profession
  • Develop and distribute shop safety manual
  • Conduct inspections and implement needed corrections
  • Purchase/maintain/update supplies/tools/equipment with approvals
  • Consult with faculty and students on proper procedures
  • Install, maintain, and repair equipment and machinery
  • Maintain clean and orderly shop
  • Interview, select, train, and supervise student employees
  • Oversee and assist in the design and construction of projects
  • Maintain shop records

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in a design-related field or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND: 

  • 18-24 months Industry and Management experience

Skills:

  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
  • Digital Fabrication: Proficient in Microsoft Office, Rhino, AutoCad, Sketchup, and/or similar programs
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff
  • Proficiency in operating workshop machinery to include, but not limited to table saw, band saw, drill press, belt and disc sander, planer, jointer, portable sawmill, lathe paint spray booth, laser cutter, and CNC router
  • Knowledge of joinery, adhesives, paints, finishes, building materials, and fasteners
  • Must be able to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively
  • Must be able to create and deliver effective training presentations

Certifications:

  • Drivers license

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs and stand on your feet for long hours.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Strong knowledge of woodworking 

Supervision: 1-5 Student Employees
