Beatriz Colomina, Howard Crosby Butler Professor of the History of Architecture at Princeton University, is coming to speak at GCA on Friday, January 24, at 1:30 p.m.
Beatriz Colomina is an internationally renowned, award-winning author and architectural historian whose work focuses on today’s questions of how architecture, art, technology, sexuality and media fit together. Colomina is also the recipient of a diverse array of awards and fellowships including the Samuel H. Kress Senior Fellowship at the CASVA (Center for Advanced Studies in the Visual Arts), SOM Foundation, Le Corbusier Foundation, Graham Foundation, the CCA (Canadian Centre for Architecture), The American Academy in Berlin and the Getty Center in Los Angeles, and the Princeton University President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching..
Colomina has lectured at universities and art museums around the world including the Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim in New York, the Architectural Institute of Japan, Harvard University, University of Beirut, Seoul University, Colombia University and more.
In addition to her lectures, Colomina’s international exhibitions strive to communicate her research of both oral and archival history to a wide audience with physical installations, digital platforms and new forms of publication. These exhibitions, including Clip/Stamp/Fold (2006), Playboy Architecture (2012) and Radical Pedagogies (2014) have traveled around the USA and Europe.
During her career, Colomina has also written numerous books, many of which have won awards, including Are We Human? Notes on an Archeology of Design (Lars Müller, 2016), The Century of the Bed (Verlag für Moderne Kunst, 2015), Das Andere/The Other: A Journal for the Introduction of Western Culture into Austria (MAK Center for Art and Architecture, 2016), Manifesto Architecture: The Ghost of Mies (Sternberg, 2014), Clip/Stamp/Fold: The Radical Architecture of Little Magazines 196X-197X (Actar, 2010), Domesticity at War (MIT Press, 2007), Privacy and Publicity: Modern Architecture as Mass Media (MIT Press, 1994), and Sexuality and Space (Princeton Architectural Press, 1992).
Colomina will lecture at the GCA on Friday, January 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Gould Hall Buskuhl Gallery room 130. Colomina’s lecture is made possible by the Bruce Goff Chair of Creative Architecture.

The book has been named a finalist for the 2026 the PROSE Awards.
Gibbs College of Architecture Regional + City Planning Professor of Practice Vanessa Morrison and Associate Professor of Architecture Deborah Richards’ Open Design Collective received top honors at the inaugural BlackSpace Urbanist Collective Studio KIN Pitch Night Competition, held last month in Brooklyn, New York City.
