GCA Alumni Honored During 2019 AIA Central Oklahoma Honor Awards Ceremony

The Gibbs College of Architecture is excited to congratulate the following OU alumni and 2019 AIA Central Oklahoma Honorees:

  • Melody Stinson, AIA, winner of the Robert M. Lawrence Volunteer Award (B.Arch, 2002)
  • Lisa Chronister, FAIA, winner of the William Wayne Caudill Award (B.Arch, 1994)
  • FSB Architects & Engineers, with many OU alumni on their team, winners of the Solomon Andrew Layton Award

As well our alumni who are AIA Central Oklahoma new licensees, including:

  • Alison Acker, AIA (B.Arch, 2013)
  • Shelby Aughtry, AIA (B.Arch 2016)
  • Brandon Concklin, AIA (B.Arch, 2013)

Among the AIA Central Oklahoma Fellows recognized during the Honor Awards ceremony were Lisa Chronister, FAIA (B.Arch, 1994); James Loftis, FAIA (B.Arch 1965); and Fred Schmidt, FAIA (B.Arch 1973).

Several GCA alumni also served as awards presenters, including Kenneth Dennis, AIA (M.Arch, 1994); Mark Gandy, AIA (BSED, 1984; M.Arch, 1987), and Fred Schmidt (Arch, 1973).

Each of these GCA alumni were recognized during the 2019 AIA Central Oklahoma Honor Awards ceremony, held on Friday, April 12. The ceremony featured a keynote address by GCA Dean Hans E. Butzer and Torrey Butzer, of Butzer Architects and Urbanism, and Gavin McMillan, principal at Hargreaves Landscape Architects. Together, they shared details about Oklahoma City’s downtown Scissortail Park project.

Gibbs College of Architecture Students Participate in Immersive Studio at Taliesin West

In May, students from the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture's Architecture, Environmental Design, and Interior Design programs participated in an intensive five-day Studio in Residence at Taliesin West, the iconic winter home and desert laboratory of Frank Lloyd Wright.
