Division of Construction Science students began a design-build project this semester as part of the Construction Fundamentals Lab, taught by Bryan Bloom, construction science instructor. The students are working on a one-bedroom affordable rental unit that will be purchased by the Norman Housing Authority following its completion. Bloom said that, for many of the students, this is their first hands-on project. To make this experience possible, the Gibbs College of Architecture partnered with a number of organizations including a local developer, who funded the project. Gibbs College of Architecture Professors Amber Brown and Amy Leveno led 29 students to Dallas, Texas, in September for a learning experience as part of their Design 7 Studio course.
Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture professor and Institute for Quality Communities Director Dr. Amber N. Wiley’s book, Model Schools in the Model City: Race, Planning, and Education in the Nation’s Capital, has received two major honors from the Urban History Association.
