Matthew (Mat) Reed serves as Technical Project Specialist II and Manager of the Creating_Making Lab (CML) at the University of Oklahoma. He works closely with students, faculty, and administrators to support the operations of both the Creating_Making and Digital_Making Labs. These spaces function as model shops and research labs, equipped with tools, machinery, and materials that foster hands-on learning and experimentation.
Mat’s top priority is safety. He ensures that all users of the lab are trained and supported, offering consultations on tool and material use while encouraging students to explore creative and unconventional solutions. His approach combines technical guidance with a commitment to fostering curiosity and innovation.
Before joining the university, Mat spent 14 years as a public-school art instructor with Norman Public Schools. His earlier professional experience includes work in tool and fastener merchandising and serving as the visitor services supervisor at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Arts from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Outside of work, Mat enjoys spending time with his family and pursues a wide range of interests including travel, gardening, museum visits, and music across genres.
