Chris Morrey is a sculptor with a 30-year practice spanning public and private commissions, gallery exhibitions, and site-specific installations. Born on the Canadian plains and having lived across the Midwest and Intermountain West—from Alberta to Texas—his work reflects a deep engagement with place, material, and the human relationship to nature. His production methods range from handcraft and metal fabrication to computer-aided design, allowing for a wide spectrum of scale and technique.
From intimate sculptures to large-scale installations, Chris’s work evokes surprise and sensory awareness, inviting viewers to consider their physical presence within the living and material environment. His practice is rooted in craft as a conduit for exploring natural motifs and embodied experience.
Chris has chaired the board of Tucson’s Dinnerware Co-operative Gallery, one of the oldest artist-run galleries in the country, and in 2011 founded Dogwood, an artist workspace in Columbia, Missouri that has supported over thirty artists and hosted monthly exhibitions.
His public commissions include works for the cities of Tucson and Columbia, the Columbia Regional Airport, and university campuses in Oklahoma and Missouri, including the University of Missouri in Columbia.
At the University of Oklahoma, Chris teaches Design Fundamentals and Drawing, approaching these courses with the same embodied sensibility that guides his sculptural work. He encourages students to recognize their active role in perceiving, interpreting, and shaping the world around them.
