Andrés Cavieres is an Associate Professor in the Division of Architecture at the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture, University of Oklahoma. He holds both a bachelor’s and professional degree in architecture from Universidad de Chile, and earned his Ph.D. in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he began his research in design computation, building information modeling (BIM), and knowledge representation in design.
Before moving to the United States, Andrés served as a lecturer at Universidad de Chile, teaching courses in BIM, design studios, and research seminars. His academic foundation is complemented by hands-on experience in digital fabrication and interdisciplinary research.
While at Georgia Tech, he was actively involved in the Digital Fabrication Lab and the Digital Building Lab, contributing to the BIM-M initiative focused on modeling applications for the masonry industry. He also played a leading role in a Department of Energy-funded research project on solar energy, where he helped develop several patent-pending technologies.
His work has been published in academic journals and conference proceedings, and exhibited at venues including the Biennale of Architecture in São Paulo, the Museum of Design Atlanta, and the AIA New York’s Center for Architecture. He was recently honored with the King Student Medal for Excellence in Architectural and Environmental Research by the Architectural Research Centers Consortium.
