Afsana Sharmin is a Lecturer in the Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Design at the University of Oklahoma’s Gibbs College of Architecture. She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture and a PhD in Land Use Planning, Management, and Design from Texas Tech University, where she also taught undergraduate architecture studios prior to joining OU.
Her research explores human-nature interaction and the ecological impacts of anthropogenic activity on natural systems. Her doctoral work examined urban morphological transformation in response to oil and gas extraction in the Greater Midland-Odessa Region of Texas. As an educator, Afsana advocates for integrating urban and landscape ecology principles into design and planning practices.
She also holds a Bachelor of Architecture and brings professional experience as a practicing architect to her teaching and research.
