Dr. Robyn Mildren
Gallogly College of Engineering School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) welcomes Dr. Robyn Mildren as an assistant professor. Her research focuses on neuroengineering approaches to understanding the nervous system and developing electrical stimulation strategies to restore sensorimotor function.
Mildren joined OU SBME in August 2026 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. During her fellowship, she received support from a Kavli Neuroscience Discovery Institute Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship and an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship. She earned her Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia, where she was supported by an NSERC Doctoral Fellowship.
Her research brings together engineering and clinical perspectives, with collaborations involving engineers who develop neural interfaces for stimulation and recording and clinicians who work directly with patients. Her work spans both preclinical primate research and clinical studies involving humans.
At OU, Mildren is launching new projects to investigate how sensory systems, particularly the vestibular and somatosensory systems, encode information important for motor and postural control. Her research also examines how this sensory processing changes with neurological disorders and how invasive and noninvasive neuromodulation approaches may help restore function.
