NORMAN, OK — Abbey Snooks, a junior majoring in Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma, has been selected as a recipient of the 2026 Provost’s Summer Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (UReCA) Fellowship. Her proposal was chosen from 127 high-quality submissions through a highly competitive selection process.
Snooks’ summer project, “Flash Floods: Concept, Science, Models, and Impacts,” will examine the scientific foundations, modeling approaches, and societal and environmental consequences of flash flooding. The project supports broader efforts to improve hazard understanding, prediction, and resilience in vulnerable communities. The UReCA Fellowship provides a $5,000 stipend and $1,000 for project materials to support undergraduate students pursuing independent research or creative activity. The program recognizes students who demonstrate strong academic potential, initiative, and commitment to advancing knowledge through research and innovation.
As a UReCA Fellow, Snooks will conduct her research over the summer and serve as an ambassador for undergraduate research at OU through outreach and engagement activities during the 2026–2027 academic year.
