Our Mission

The mission of the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering is to produce graduates with the capability to make systems productive through the optimization and integration of processes, resources, and information.

The Goals Set to Accomplish Our Mission

Prepare ISE graduates who are sought after by a wide range of enterprises to lead the development and implementation of integrated systems solutions that balance multiple objectives.

Provide global, national, and regional leadership in the design, analysis, and improvement of integrated systems through collaborative and multidisciplinary research.

Through our graduates and our research, provide systems solutions that reduce costs, increase productivity, and enhance the well-being of users.

Program Educational Objectives

Our Industrial and Systems Engineering undergraduate program is preparing our recent graduates to meet the following objectives:

  1. Our alumni will have successful careers strengthened by the knowledge of industrial and systems engineering methods and principles.
  2. Our alumni will be emerging or established leaders among their peers.
  3. Our alumni will be engaged in activities of life-long learning and professional development through their willingness to take on challenges and learning opportunities.

Student Learning Outcomes

Through our Industrial and Systems Engineering undergraduate curriculum students will attain the following learning outcomes:

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors 
  3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts 
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions 
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
