Dr. Polina Verbytska visited the University of Oklahoma to meet with faculty and students, give several presentations, do research in the OU Libraries' collections, and see several Native American museums and cultural centers in the area. The presentation she gave to SLIS was titled, "Between Memory and Empire: The Struggle Over Colonial Narratives in Ukrainian Cultural Space" and discussed the history of Russian and Soviet colonial actions in Ukraine, and the impact of the current war on Ukraine's museums and cultural sites.
Dr. Verbytska is currently a Fullbright Scholar, and is is a professor in the Department of History, Museum Studies and Cultural Heritage at the Lviv Polytechnic National University, her work largely focuses on cultural memory, the interpretation of history in education, and postcolonial studies.
