Drs. Linda Endersby and Jason Harris, SLIS MAMS Faculty, attended the Mountain Plains Museums Association conference in Omaha, Nebraska, from October 2 to 4. This regional museum organization supports countless museums across the ten-state region.
Dr. Harris and Dr. Endersby served as panelists leading a session on various Museum Property Acts within the region. Both Harris and Endersby have extensive experience with various state laws governing the legal ownership of collections held in the possession of a museum. Dr. Harris drafted the legislation creating Oklahoma’s property act in 2025, and Dr. Endersby has worked extensively on revising Nebraska’s statute and implementing the changes recently enacted.
This session provided attendees with recent updates on the Museum Property Acts across the region, including new best practices, policy changes, and ongoing efforts to ensure that museums have clear pathways to legal ownership of their collections. SLIS faculty participation helps ensure that our Museum Studies students have access to the latest trends and case studies in museum management and leadership.
