Edwards Elected 2025-2026 Chair-elect of the Educators of School Librarians (ESL) Division of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL)

April 29, 2025

Buffy Edwards, SLIS Faculty and Internship Documentation Coordinator, was elected as chair-elect of the ESL division.

“I am honored to serve as incoming Chair-elect of ESL and will work to strengthen and advance the field and seek to unite educators dedicated to preparing the next generation of professionals. I will work to change the narrative about the role of school librarians through conversations and relationship building with education-focused parties”.

As a former Teacher Librarian and now educator of school librarians, meaningful engagement with learners is critical. Working to ensure students experience a robust curriculum embedding AASL standards through authentic application helps candidates establish a grounded perspective of best practice in school librarianship. Through these experiences, graduates can see themselves as leaders and realize their own potential.

The general purpose of the Educators of School Librarians Section (ESLS) is to focus attention on programs in higher education that prepare candidates to develop and manage library and information services in a PreK-12 school library setting. Edwards will serve as chair-elect, then chair, followed by immediate past chair.
