SLIS Faculty Member, and Director, Dr. June Abbas receives the 2023 Edith Kinney Gaylord Presidential Professorship.
Each year the Presidential Professorships are awarded to faculty members who excel in their roles as a professional in their field and also to the students they teach and mentor.
Dr. June Abbas was awarded the Edith Kinney Gaylord Presidential Professorship for 2023. In her nomination, Dr. Abbas was recognized for her outstanding dedication to her students not only as an advisor and mentor but also through her ability to provide an environment in which students feel engaged to explore and develop critical thinking skills. She is able to bring theories to practice through her instructional design.
As a professional she has had a broad impact on the field of information science through her scholarly work, research, serving on the ASIS&T Board of Directors, and as the Editor-in-Chief of the Library and Information Science Research Journal.
