The department is pleased to congratulate Melle van Duijn on being selected as a Dodge College of Arts and Sciences Dissertation Completion Fellow. As part of that fellowship, Melle has been awarded a one-semester teaching load reduction, providing him with additional time and resources to finish his dissertation.

Melle received his B.A. in Philosophy & Spanish from the University of the Ozarks (2020), and his M.A. in Philosophy from Oklahoma State University (2023). His dissertation, Socrates' Philosophy of Death, examines the historical Socrates' philosophical commitments concerning death and dying. It is the first work to incorporate Xenophon's Socratic texts into a systematic study of Socrates' views on death.
