  • Tassel colors are Blue and Brown.
  • Special Distinction & Distinction hoods
    • Combined Retention GPA (includes all courses taken with repeat, reprieve and renewal policies applied – Overall Transcript Total)
      • Distinction – 3.60 – 3.89 Combined Retention GPA
      • Special Distinction – 3.90 or above Combined Retention GPA
    • Minimum of 60 hours taken at OU
    • No disciplinary Academic Integrity action

Those graduating With Distinction wear a gold hood with their gown.

The With Distinction degree designation is conferred by the student’s degree-granting college.

Distinction is based primarily on the student’s grade point average. Both the transcript and the diploma carry the designation. Graduating With Distinction or With Special Distinction is granted once all grades have been posted and degrees have been cleared. The final semester of academic work will be factored in and distinction will be granted, adjusted, or removed based on this calculation.

  • Honors College Hoods
    • Graduation candidates wear a crimson hood with their gown.
    • Students who graduate with honors must have been accepted to the Honors College and have fulfilled the requirements outlined by the Honors College.
      • Cum Laude (3.40-3.59)
      • Magna cum Laude (3.60-3.79)
      • Summa cum Laude (3.80-4.00)

Both the transcript and diploma carry the Honors designation. The student’s academic records will be reviewed for anticipated Honors based on all academic work at the end of the semester prior to participating in graduation ceremonies. Students may wear the crimson hood based on this anticipated status. Graduating with Honors is granted once all grades have been posted and degrees have been cleared. The final semester of academic work will be factored in and distinction will be granted, adjusted or removed based on this calculation. Contact the Honors College Clearance advisor for specific requirements and questions.

  • Masters students
    • All Masters students wear a black tassel with a University Seal Charm.
    • Hood Color for MA is White
    • Hood Color for MS is Gold and Yellow
  • Doctoral Students
    • All Doctoral students wear a short, gold tassel
    • Hood Color is Royal Blue
