There is only one Oklahoma and there is only one of you. If you are applying to OU, you are exactly what this university needs to continue the path to excellence. OU gives us the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Every day here, OU challenges you, champions you, and walks with you every step of the way.

Emma Ludwig, an OU senior in the Price College of Business, spent her junior summer as a process and technology consulting intern at Opportune, an energy industry advisory firm in Houston, TX.

“I wanted to intern at Opportune because of its focus on data-enabled process transformation aligned with my coursework at OU,” Emma said. “One of Price College’s goals is to give students the ability to keep up with global competitiveness. An internship at Opportune directly reflected that and allowed me to work directly with issues that Fortune 500 energy organizations face.”

It wasn’t only because of OU’s connections and commitment to academic excellence that helped her secure the internship. As a member of the JCPenney Leadership Program, a Price program that sharpens leadership skills in students, Emma had access to networking, professional growth, and intentional programming.

“As a JCPenney Associate, I attended a members-only recruiting social, that’s where I met Opportune and networked one-on-one with consultants and directors,” Emma said. “I gained early insight into the firm’s culture and client work. Because of my program and all that it helped me with, like interviews and networking, I stood out as a candidate.”

At Opportune, Emma’s internship led the development of multiple projects. She automated data pipelines and transformed operational data into clear, useful insights to clients. Her internship gave her more than just an opportunity to use skills she learned at OU, but access to industry leaders.

“I held meetings with Partners of the firm and senior-level consultants who hold decades of experience,” Emma said. “I had coffee chats and meals with them. These conversations gave me the confidence to continue my OU education. I’m beginning a M.S. in Management of Information and Technology on the thesis track.”

Although pursing a M.S. wasn’t in her original plans, Emma’s internship confirmed that her OU story won’t end when she graduates with a bachelor’s degree this May.

“I am continuously learning and applying technology to solve complex problems in my industry,” Emma said. “I’m not ready to leave this amazing community and the daily encounter of Sooner Magic yet. With my M.S., my goal is to complete research that examines how analytics and information systems improve organizational decision-making and performance.”

Emma chose OU because of its proximity to her hometown and the familiarity of crimson and cream, but it was when she was on campus that she realized OU would provide her with a world-class education surrounded by incredible professors and a student body that became lifelong friends.

“There is only one Oklahoma and there is only one of you,” Emma said. “If you are applying to OU, you are exactly what this university needs to continue the path to excellence. OU gives us the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Every day here, OU challenges you, champions you, and walks with you every step of the way.”
